Being stuck in the house 24-7 sucks. There are only so many Netflix original movies and, Tic Tock videos you can watch. Even a homebody, like a total introvert, may need a little break. So, the monotony of quarantine life may eventually lead you to “swipe left” to find yourself a pandemic partner ’cause let’s be honest, sex is a great way to kill boredom. If you’re longing for a little lovin’ but have decided to do your part to practice social distancing, here are three alternatives to sex you can commit to during the Coronavirus pandemic.
But let’s start with the basics.
What the heck is the COVID-19 (Corona) Virus?
Coronaviruses’ are not new. These have been around for some time and often cause mild illness, like the common cold. This new strain of the virus (COVID-19) however, is a little different. This novel strain of the virus has not previously been seen in humans, which is the reason for the concern.
Symptoms of the COVID-19 virus include:
- Fever
- Cough and
- Shortness of breath
Less common symptoms may include:
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Problems with your sense of smell, or
- Digestive issues like nausea or diarrhea
Experts believe that the COVID-19 virus is spread when you come into contact with the saliva or mucus of someone who has been infected. Symptoms usually appear anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks after being exposed.
So, what does that mean for your vagina and your sex life?
Sex and The Coronavirus
While researchers don’t believe that COVID-19 can be spread through semen or vaginal fluids, different strains of the virus have been found in other bodily fluids so you might want to think twice about “swapping spit” your “quarantined cutie.” Experts recommend maintaining a 6-foot distance to lessen your chances of getting the virus.
I get it.
A girl has needs… Urgent pressing needs, but since scientists are still trying to perfect the testing and treatment for the virus, it’s better to err on the side of caution.
So, what do you do in the meantime?
I gotcha sis, here are a few ideas:
1. Take a bath
With your on-the-go lifestyle, it’s probably been a minute since you’ve taken an old-fashion soak in the tub. Since time is no longer an issue, this is the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted. You want to start by filling the tub with hot water and then adding in the cold water to prevent your bath water from cooling off too quickly. Add a few drops of fragrant essential oil to tantalize your olfactory sense. Dim the lights, set out a few candles, and turn on your Spotify relaxation playlist. Don’t forget to grab the latest edition of Essence, a few snacks and a little bubbly and to create the perfect private spa experience.
2. Get Handy
A little self-stimulation can help you with your long days and lonely night. I know, traditionally, you may have been taught that delighting yourself is something to be ashamed of or even an immoral act but with sex toys, videos, and Internet porn being readily available, it’s safe to say masturbation isn’t going away any time soon. Findings from a 2010 study of sexual behavior found that more than half of adult women actively participated in a “little solo action.” And since we don’t know how long it will take to “flatten the curve” there is no time like the present to engage in a little DYI preferably as often as possible (wink, wink).
3. Try in a Little Sexting
If you’re missing bae (or potential bae) you ought to consider engaging in a little sexting. Sending fun, flirty messages is a great way to spice things up and stay connected. But if you’re not sure how to start the conversation, it can feel a little awkward at first. But mastering the ability to get your partner turned on, even when you’re in a completely different space (or a different zip code for that matter) is all you need to and keep this long-distance romance exciting! Tap into his fantasies with racy pictures and provocative words. Giving him sexy little hints about what you’re doing, wearing, or thinking can keep the spark flying while you “shelter in place.”
Coronavirus has changed our sex lives in many ways. The mandated social restrictions might have you longing for the physical touch of the one you love (or lust), but there are still ways to keep it hot while satisfying your most primal needs. Besides, now is a great time to try something new to improve your sex life.
How have you been keeping busy during the Coronavirus pandemic?
