Hey Lovely,
So being a woman is awesome… until you start issues with your vagina. Let’s be honest, it happens to all of us. Classic signs…. funky discharge, unusual odor, burning, or itching and usually at the most inconvenient times (I mean, really?)
But to keep it all the way 100, vaginal issues are super common and easily treatable. Most often, infections are the reason for unusual discharge. Some of the more common infections include:
- Yeast overgrowth
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV), or
- Trichomoniasis (Trich)
Your symptoms of itching and burning could also be caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia. You want to treat these infections as soon as possible to prevent any future problems. The fact is STD rates are at an all-time high. In 2017 there nearly 2.3 million cases in the US alone. If that’s not a reason to keep tabs on your girly parts, I don’t know what it. Hey, I get it, between your boss babe brunches and board meetings it can be hard to find time to make it to your doctor for that checkup.
Don’t you wish that there was an easier way?
There is.
myLAB Box offers at-home testing for all kinds of common vaginal issues. Yup. You read that right. No rearranging your schedule, no awkward conversations, no additional hassle. Just order your kit, swab, get your results. That’s it!
So Here’s how it Works
myLAB Box works with top manufacturers in the U.S. to bring high-quality STD testing kits right to your doorstep. In discreet packaging no less. Nobody has to know boo.
Collect your sample in as little as 5 minutes and mail it in with the self-addressed envelope provided and you’ll get your lab-certified results back by email in 3 to 5 days! If you’re worried about whether or not your results are legit. Don’t be! All testing done on your samples meet state and federal regulations.
What I really love about myLAB Box, is that if you any of your test results are positive, you won’t need to figure out how to make it back to the clinic for follow-up. You can simply arrange a call with one of their doctors who can address your questions and concerns. Did I mention that this call is FREE.99? Yup. No charge for speaking with one of their experts.
The doctor might even be able to send your prescription to treat chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomoniasis (treatment is only available for these infections right now) right to your pharmacy. Talk about convenient.
So to take advantage of this physician phone call, start by sending an email with your order number to customer service. They’ll shoot back a short survey to fill out before your scheduled appointment. The doctor will call you and guide you through your next steps.
I’m Interested- What kind of Tests do They Have?
myLAB Box offers a range of tests for issues like yeast infections, BV and HPV (If you don’t know what HPV is, read about it in my previous post.) Since it’s their mission to make STD testing easier, they also offer at-home testing for other infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, trich and, genital herpes, just to name a few.
So how much in myLAB Box STD Testing Kit Gonna Set me Back?
Truthfully, these tests are pretty affordable. On average, ordering a test kit is half the cost of doing the same tests in an actual lab or clinic. Plus, you won’t have the added worry about co-pays or follow-up exam costs. The prices for each kit ranges from as low as $79 dollars up to $499 dollars for the couples STD test kit (yes, boo your partner(s) should know their status too). The price for the V-box which I received is $189 dollars. Oh and as an FYI, these kits may reimbursable through your flexible healthcare spending account (check with your plan administrator first). Unfortunately, myLAB Box is not currently accepting payment by health insurance- hopefully, they’ll work on that.
V-Box Review
So if I’m gonna push a product, I should actually try it out, right? I ordered the V-Box which tests for some of the more common causes of vaginal discharge- yeast, BV, Trich, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.
I placed my order online and I was pleasantly surprised when my kit showed up in my mailbox two days later. True to their word, the packaging was very discreet-it came in a USPS priority mail envelope that blended in with the rest of my mail. It certainly didn’t scream STD testing!
Inside I found a good looking test kit that was super easy to open but honestly, I’m a sucker for anything with quality packaging.
So Get to the Good Stuff- What’s inside?
Inside my box I found:
- Instructions on how to register the kit
- Instructions for collecting the sample
- Two biohazard bags
- Two transport tubes
- Two cotton swab, and
- A pre-paid return envelope
So How do I Register My Box?
The first thing I did was registered my kit online. This is great feature allows you to track your samples when they are returned for processing. I typed in my email address, created a password and entered the letter/number combination found on the back of my test kit box.
Next, I typed in my name, address, birthday, phone number, and gender. I checked two boxes at the end of the page, clicked on the register button and I was done!
So Tell Me How This Testing Works
So let’s get to the good stuff. Collecting a sample is pretty simple and I found step-by-step instructions which included pictures very helpful. I followed the instructions and collected my samples in literally 5 minutes.
Let me walk you through it…First things first, wash your hands and remove the cotton swab from the sealed package.
Insert the swab inside your lady parts about 2 inches, making sure that you swirl it around to touch the sides of your vagina.
Slide the swab out and place it into the transport tube with the tip of the swab pointing downwards. Put the cap back on the transport tube and voila! Since this kit includes two samples. Repeat this process twice.
Place your samples in the biohazard bags along with your completed requisition form and drop everything in the mail.
Ok, So What are My Results?
It took about 5 business days for me to get an email notifying me that my results were available. I logged into my myLAB Box account and downloaded my results as a PDF document.
My test results were negative (YAY!) The report comes in a pretty easy to read format listing the name of the test, the result (positive or negative) the collection date and the report date. The report also includes a great overview of how each test is performed on your sample.
Safe is Sexy
myLAB Box offers a good alternative to help you keep tabs on your sexual health from the comfort of your home. Another FYI, these tests should in no way, replace your annual visit to your preferred healthcare provider (yes boo, you still have to keep these appointments). The best sex is safe sex and the ease and convenience testing myLab Box provides you with just that.
